100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta Celebrates its Roots While Shaping the Future with Upcoming Scholarship Awards Gala

Encapsulated by this year’s theme: “Honoring Our Roots, Celebrating Today, Shaping Tomorrow,” the program will highlight graduating seniors of the mentorship programs and the accomplishments of alumni who have achieved professional and personal success after graduation. A keynote address will serve as a motivational charge for all those in attendance. Since the program’s inception, the organization has awarded over $3.5 million in scholarships to its graduating seniors.

The Celebration of Excellence Scholarship Gala is held annually to raise scholarship funds for the South Metro Atlanta chapter’s award-winning mentorship programs. The Rites of Passage Leadership Academy is a formal program with competitive entry requirements. It targets male students in grades 8-12 and exposes them to life skills, leadership development, college/career preparedness, financial literacy, and more. The M.I.R.R.OR. 100 is a holistic development program that meets youth where they are, providing educational and occupational guidance. The South Metro Atlanta chapter also sponsors a co-ed Collegiate 100 at Clark Atlanta University and an Emerging 100 chapter for young professional men.

“We are delighted to continue working with our community stakeholders to ensure that more African American students have the necessary funding to go to college,” said Joe Swanson, Jr., President & CEO. “We are grateful to have the opportunity to recognize Georgia-Pacific and Vulcan Materials Company for serving as essential partners in our important work to create better futures for our youth.”

In 2020, the 100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta, Incorporated celebrated 30 years of service. From 1990 until now the chapter has positively affected the youth in the Atlanta Metropolitan area. Over 1,500 mentees have graduated from the South Metro Rites of Passage Academy since its inception. The chapter proudly continues to cultivate African American leaders.

The Gala will be held at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta at Centennial Park (100 CNN Center, North Tower, Atlanta, GA 30303), with a pre-reception at 5:30 P.M., and the ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Tickets are priced at $150.00.
